Basic Facts

Language(s) of Instruction: ​English and French are the official languages of Canada. The majority of programmes are in English; however, some institutions may offer programmes in French      
​                    
 
Immigration Matters: A study permit will be required for international students seeking to enroll in school in Canada for more than six months.   
 Students from countries requiring a visa for entry, will also have to apply for a temporary resident visa.  
The process comprises an online application and a visit to a visa application centre for biometrics. completed online.  

Travel to 
Canada: 
 At least one flight may be required when travelling to Canada. The country is the 2nd largest country in the world and is divided into provinces – therefore, depending on the province, more than one flight may be required.  

Higher Education Overview
 
  • Bachelor’s degree programmes can be 4-5yrs in length, if pursuing honours and/or a co-op work placement. Programmes may be 3yrs in length without honours. 
  • Master’s degree programmes can be 1 - 2yrs in length 
  •  Doctoral programmes can be 4yrs in length

Recommended Student Profile:  Canada would be a great fit for individuals from age 17 and up seeking to pursue undergraduate level studies. For graduate studies, there are a wider range of opportunities in studies such as Business, Humanities and Social Sciences; however, when it comes to research-based science or medical related programmes, options are very limited.

FAQs

Can I apply to medicine after completing secondary school?
No. Medicine is a graduate programme in Canada. Therefore a bachelor degree is required.

Do I have to travel to an embassy in another country to apply for my visa?
The application can be submitted online but persons may have to physically visit the nearest visa application centre (VAC) for biometrics.​

Can international students work while studying? 
Yes

Are there post-graduation work permit opportunities?
Yes

Can I bring my spouse and/or dependent children?
Yes, for Students in graduate and doctoral degree programmes only
