Canada is an emerging study destination of choice among international students. In 2018, 572,415 international students were estimated to be in Canada pursuing an education.
Germany is fast becoming a preferred study destination of choice among international students. An estimated 374,951 international students were pursuing an education in Germany.
United Kingdom is a longstanding study destination of choice among international students. Between 400,000-500,000 students are hosted yearly.
United State of America is the leading study destination for international students. Over one million international students currently reside in the USA.

Basic Facts about Studying in Australia
- Tertiary education includes both institutions offering vocational education training (VET) and higher education (HE). College typically refer to institutions offering VET qualifications and HE institutions refer to universities
- There are 43 universities in Australia which offer higher education academic programs at the undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral level. The majority of universities in Australia are public.
- The average undergraduate degree is approximately 3yrs in length. Honors degree programs are usually 4yrs in length.
- Eight of the world’s top one hundred universities are located in Australia
- VET programs are offered by government institutions known as Technical and Further Education Institutions (TAFE).
- VET programs may range between 1-4yrs in length and are open to international students.
- The language of instruction in Australia is English
- International students can work part-time on and off campus during the period of study. There are options for eligible international students to work after graduation.
- Highly competitive programs such as veterinary medicine, medicine, law etc., are open to international students.

Basic Facts about Studying in Canada
- English and French are the two official languages of Canada. The majority of programs are delivered in English; however, some institutions may offer programs in French.
- Across most Canadian provinces, the higher education system consists of a college and university system.
- With the exception of Quebec, colleges in Canada offer programs at both the post-secondary and post-graduate level. Colleges offer post-secondary certificates, diplomas, undergraduate degrees and post-graduate certificate and diplomas across several disciplines.
- Universities offer undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level programs
- The average length of an undergraduate degree program is 4 yrs. Honours programs or programs with a co-op may be 5 yrs in length.
- Highly competitive programs such as veterinary medicine, medicine and law are very restrictive and offer limited places to international students.
- SATs are not required for admission into university or an undergraduate degree program. Some graduate degree programs may require GREs or GMAT as an admission requirement.
- Both colleges and universities offer co-op (work/study) opportunities as part of some programs.

Basic Facts about Studying in Germany
- German is primary the language of instruction for most German public institutions. However, for some graduate level programs, the language of instruction may be English.
- English is the primary language of instruction for most German private institutions. However, the majority of private institutions may offer German language courses for students to take alongside their course of study.
- There are language university pathway programs for non-German speaking students to take before enrolling in a public institution.
- There are four main types of higher education institutions in Germany: Universities; Universities of Applied Sciences, Universities of Cooperative Education and Private Universities. Course offerings may vary depending on the type of institution.
- Undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs are available to international students to apply to.
- International students studying at a public institution in Germany may not be required to pay tuition fees. International students may be required to pay a nominal incidental fee to cover other administrative costs associated with attending schools.
- Private institutions in Germany charge tuition fees; however, the fees may still be comparatively lower when compared to other study destinations.
- As part of the process to study in Germany, international students are required to demonstrate sufficiency funds to cover the cost of their say in Germany for at least one year.
- International Students can work on a part time basis while studying in Germany.
- There are opportunities for international students to extend their stay in Germany, after successfully completing their studies, for the purpose of employment.
Basic Facts about Studying in the United Kingdom
- The higher education system in the UK consists of universities. Students can choose from 162 universities offering undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs.
- Students can choose universities located in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
- The Education system in Scotland is separate from the educational system in the other countries which make up the United Kingdom.
- Colleges in the UK fall under ‘Further Education’ where they can be categorized as sixth form colleges or vocational education institutions.
- International students primarily matriculate into sixth form colleges or directly into university programs.
- Undergraduate degrees in the UK are primarily 3 yrs in length; however, in Scotland, programs are typically 4 yrs in length.
- There are a number of ‘Sandwich Courses’ which is 4 yrs in length and would involve a year in industry or in some cases an integrated taught master’s program.
- There are two types of graduate programs: 1) Taught Masters and 2) Research Masters. The latter program would provide for progression into a doctoral program.
- International students can apply to highly competitive programs such as medicine, veterinary medicine and law.
- International students are allowed to work during their studies.

- Students can consider both private and public institutions when considering a college or university.
- There are different types of higher education institutions ranging from: two-year junior colleges, senior colleges, universities etc.
- Undergraduate degrees are typically 4 yrs in length. Graduate degrees are typically 2 yrs while doctoral degrees may range from 4-5 yrs in length.
- Admission into degree programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels of study may require persons to take a standardized admissions test. Some schools and/or program may be test optional.
- Medicine and Law programs are graduate level programs and therefore an undergraduate degree program is required.
