​Post-secondary education in the majority of countries in the English-speaking Caribbean region can be considered a hybrid of both the North American and British higher education systems. Upon completion of secondary level studies, there are opportunities to pursue college and/or university studies locally and regionally. Students have the option to pursue studies at a community college, technical institutes or polytechnics or universities. There are options to pursue studies at public institutions and private institutions, but this will vary by country.

The region has become a hub for medical schools, particularly medical schools offering a curriculum to train licensed medical professionals to work in North America and/or the United Kingdom. Students spend approximately 2-3 years in the region undergo basic science and pre-clinical training before progressing to clinical rotations across various locations in the US, Canada or the United Kingdom.
